The Spanish Princess is a historical period drama TV show developed by Emma Frost and Matthew Graham for Starz. It is based on the novels The Constant Princess and The King's Curse by Philippa Gregory. This eight episodes TV show is a sequel to the miniseries The White Queen and The White Princess. The Spanish Princess is about Catherine of Aragon and the young Henry VIII. The story of this TV show is about love, death, revenge, betrayal, and power. The strong performances by Harriet Walter as the power-hungry grandmother Margaret Beaufort and Laura Carmichael as the tragically marginalized aunt was very good at https://ww2.gomovie.sc/ . You’ll see an apathetic gestures toward the large cultural complexity of the recently conquered Black Muslim population of Spain.

There are great dresses, doublets, jackets, and sleeves as well, of course — hats. I came away from the first four episodes of this show with the sense that its hats have been crafted with more care than its characters. Carmichael’s Maggie Pole is pretty good as well as Walter’s Beaufort, Alexandra Moen as Queen Elizabeth, and a few very good scenes with Georgie Henley as Meg Tudor, the younger sister who’s being sent away to marry the king of Scotland. There is a common theme of all those characters. They are all women on the sidelines railing against their marginalized positions, trying to manipulate the men around them to achieve their own goals, but they often fail. But The Spanish Princess is very confident and effective in its characterizations as it’s focused on these women who are scrambling to regain some foothold of power.

Catherine of Aragon is maybe too privileged, self-conscious of her privilege, or maybe wickedly smart, very blind to the world, or maybe sweet and honest or an inept liar - it’s hard to say. The biggest enigmas of this show are the two characters in The Spanish Princess, Lina, and Oviedo. The beginning of this series shows expositional opening about Catholics conquering the Muslim territories in Spain. Black Muslims who’ve converted to survive, travel with Oviedo to England. This show was confused about whether it wants to use them to tell a story of prejudice or ignore their race and religion entirely. Lina has faith in Catherine that she will pick her a good Tudor husband. On the other side, Oviedo wisely believes they will get dumped from Catherine’s retinue if she can’t afford to keep them. The excessive obedience feels of Lina, and Oviedo’s knowingness is no substitute for a thoroughly understood private life.

That can’t say that The Spanish Princess doesn’t worth watching. Catherine tried to bring Spanish culture to England with her. Her inability to shape England into a place that looks more like her home country mirrors The Spanish Princess’s also incomplete the transformation of the Tudor story. It can’t help slipping back into the story that we already know. Though the result is still entertaining, it’s also less original than you might have hoped. I hope you’ll enjoy the show.
